Class times: Your child will get the most out of class if you arrive on time.
Siblings: If you have two children in the Birth to Age 4 range, you can register both of them for Family Music class. Generally, we discourage siblings older than 4 from attending class. If you have two children registered for the same class, you should consider bringing another adult to help with the activities. The registration for the first sibling is $35 and the second sibling $10. You will also receive a 20% discount on the second child's tuition.
Referral Discount: If you refer a family to the Musikgarten program, you will recieve a $5 credit per referral that can be applied to the next series of classes for your child. The referred family must register for the class and pay the full registration and tution fees in order for you to recieve your referral credit. The $5 credit is no longer applicable if the referred family recieves a refund on registration or tuition for any reason.
During Class: It is suggested that the parent gently guides rather than manipulates. For example, it is better to model tapping your sticks, than to take your babies hand and tap their sticks for them. There will be times when a toddler may decide to “explore outside the circle.” Most of the time, this is not a problem, and as long as you continue to model the activities, your child will usually return to you shortly. If your child begins to behave poorly (screaming, running or crying loudly) please take s/he out of the room for a small break, and bring the child back when you are both ready. Please be a parent in class! If your child is not responding well to an activity, you are free to modify it. If you need to nurse or attend to your baby, please feel free to do so. Although it is very rare, if your child is continually disruptive I reserve the right to ask you and the child to leave the room or no longer participate in the class.
Socializing: It is my sincere hope that you will have good relationships and socialize with the other parents in class. Please limit your socializing to before and after class. Since these classes are so aurally based, a lot of background chatter can be very distracting to the children.
Family Materials: Materials are a vital part of the Musikgarten program and are intended to be used at home. If your child listens to the CD at home, s/he will be prepared to participate in class. If you sing and dance to these songs at home with your child, s/he will begin to enjoy a lifetime of music-making because music is an important part of YOUR life.
Illness/Inclement weather: It is not necessary to let me know if you are going to miss a class, and there will be no refunds. However, you may choose to come to the same class offered on another day (please call to arrange this beforehand). In case a class is canceled due to inclement weather, classes will be rescheduled if at all possible. Our classes follow the Madison County Public Schools schedule. If they are canceled for snow, so are we. A snow delay in the public schools does NOT affect our schedule.
Make-Up Classes
At this time, due to space and scheduling, I am usually not able to offer make-up classes. If you miss a class, I will do my best to make arrangements with you to come to a class at an alternate time during the week. However, this is not possible, because the all classes are at capacity. It is not necessary to be at every class to benefit from the curriculum.
Liability: Parents attend classes with their children. You are responsible for your child's safety and behavior at all times.
Refunds: Registration fees are non-refundable. Partial tuition refunds are possible until the 2nd week of class. After that time, tuition is non-refundable. No refunds on drop-in fees.
